Today I want to focus my blog entry on our daughter Raven. She was born full term, but only a whopping 2lbs. and 8.3 inches in length on October 7th, 2000.
I would like to say it was one of the best days of my life, but that’s difficult to do. Raven was loved from moment we knew she existed. I don’t want anyone to have any misconceptions about that.
But on the day she was born, the doctors told us she would most likely die. She came into this world tiny, limp, without a heart beat. She was not breathing. We were advised to “give her a name before she died”.
It was eerie and quiet in the room as the doctors and specialists worked over her tiny lifeless body to jump-start her heart. When they got a rhythm, she was whisked away from us before we could hold/touch her.
Within a few hours, we learned that she had black hair, and the name Raven came to be. There were more terrible things that took place within a 48 hr. time span, and Raven did not leave the hospital for the first 100 days of her precious life. When I have more time and not as many photos, I will go into more detail of that day.
But today is for bragging rights alone. She is a beautiful, intelligent, and fierce. I have never seen a more determined child and am always amazed at her strength despite her health issues. I feel sorry for those who underestimate her.
Thanks for taking the time to look at photos of our girl. Tomorrow I have some sewing progress to show.
It’s almost Friday!!! YES!
